February 4th Training Natural light Portraits Riaan & Jane This will be a practical at Groeneweide using props, screen, lighting & models (Riaan to ask Dries v Heerden, Dirk Laurie, Nelleke). The object of this theme will be to take a good portrait shot, using mostly natural light. Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed.
18th Viewing Black & White
March 4th Training Looking Up Riaan Take a photo of anything from the ground looking upwards. This can be trees, buildings, clouds, or anything that has good shapes, lines or tells a story. The view point must be above your head Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed.
18th Viewing Natural light Portraits
April 1st Training Faceless Portaits Veronica A portrait, by definition, captures the personality of the subject and then transfers that piece of information over to the viewer of said portrait. Traditionally, a portrait depicts the face of the subject. The challenge of this theme is to capture the personality of the subject and transport it to the viewer without seeing the face. Silhouettes can be included. Not just bodyparts, like arm/leg etc – emphasis on PORTRAIT. 30% or more of body. Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed.
15th Viewing Looking Up
May 6th Training Drops splish & splash Marc, & team Practical. Milk/water/any liquid, Ripples, Splash. Something dropped into liquid – Not rocks, not waves, controlled environment. Liquid into Liquid. puddles are fine Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed. Done
20th Viewing Faceless Portaits
June 3rd Training Musical instruments Nelleke The subject of the photo must be any musical instrument, NOT the artist or the artist’s hands. Any musical instrument taken from a creative, angle or perspective, as long as the emphasis is on the instrument or a component of the instrument. Action shots are welcomed, as long as the instrument makes up majority of the photo. This is a good opportunity for abstracts & closeups Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed. August 5th Training Framed Christo Natural framing: Trees, mountains, rocks, anything natural that form a frame. Artificial framing: Buildings, poles, doors/windows, anything man made. Models also welcome. Frame is taken IN CAMERA. picture THROUGH a frame – its not a picture of a frame. Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed.
19th Viewing Ordinary Objects turned extraordinary
September 2nd Training Shapes or lines or symmetry Marc Lines/Shapes/Symmetry. Not implied (actual line/shape). Line and or Shape to be the main feature/focal point/s. Symmetry can be used but not required. Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed. One image, standard post production encouraged. Done
16th Viewing Framed
October 7th Training Expressions & Emotions Nelleke Animals/Humans emotions captured. The emotion must be obvious and recognisable in the shot. Photos can be candid / posed also an excellent streetphotography, opportunity. The expression on the face must tell the story, not implied by the surroundings. Basic editing – no composite photos. Blending HDR is allowed. Done
21st Viewing Shapes or lines or symmetry
November 4th Training Seasons Veronica Every season has it’s own character and beauty. The challenge of this theme is to capture something that will depict the season without an explanation, for example Autumn leaves, Spring new growth, Rain, Ice, Snow, Storms etc. Open Editing on ONE PHOTO only.
18th Viewing Expressions & Emotions
December 2nd Training Silence / Serenity Marc Photos submitted must prompt the emotion/story of peace/serenity/silence. One image, HDR accepted, standard post production allowed & encouraged. Done
